Abstract

Kenikir leaves (Cosmos caudatus Kunth.) are one of the vegetables that are often consumed as fresh vegetables. Apart from being used as a vegetable, kenikir is also useful as a medicinal plant, including strengthening bones and improving blood circulation. Kenikir leaves contain alkaloids, saponins, steroids, phenols, terpenoids and flavonoids. One of the methods used in the extraction process is the maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent, after which a liquid extract is obtained and then heated using a rotary evaporator to obtain a thick extract. The antioxidant activity test using the phosphomolybdate method is based on the reduction power of phosphomolybdate and the total antioxidant power of the sample. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of kenikir leaves (Cosmos caudatus Kunth.) using the phosphomolybdate method. Determination of antioxidant activity values using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a maximum wavelength of 423 nm. The results showed that the standard quercetin solution had an RC50 value of 91.33 μg/mL and the ethanol extract of kenikir leaves (Cosmos caudatus Kunth.) had an RC50 value of 513.49 μg/mL.
